A suicide bomber struck at the venue of a wedding in the Hawul local government area of Borno state on Friday, killing six people.
Aderemi Opadokun, the state commissioner of police, confirmed the casualty figure in an interview with NAN in Maiduguri, capital of the state.
Opadokun also said that about 30 people were injured during the attack.
“I confirm the report on an alleged suicide bombing in Tashan Alade in Hawul LGA. The incident was reported to have occurred at a wedding fatiha,” he said.

“Presently, six persons, all males, whose identities are unknown, are confirmed dead, while 30 others were injured.”
Opadokun added that the police had commenced investigations into the matter.
The high rate of insecurity in the country has taken its toll on Borno, despite government’s efforts to restore normalcy to the state and other troubled parts of the country.

During his inaugural address on Friday, President Muhammadu Buhari directed that the military command centre be moved to Maiduguri until insurgency is brought under control.
