Suicide bombers ‘kill 7’ in Cameroon

At least seven people were killed in bomb attacks in Cameroon’s far north region on Sunday.

The incidents happened in towns of Kolofata, which shares border with Nigeria.

A source told Reuters that three people were killed in the first explosion, which struck near a well in the town, while at least four people were killed by a second bomb near a church.

“According to the information I have, there were seven killed in two attacks in Kolofata,” Communication Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary told Reuters.

The death toll could climb, Midjiyawa Bakari, governor of the far North Region, told AP, saying he had it on good authority that three bombers were involved.

“The death toll may be high because it was a market day in the locality and many people from surrounding villages and Nigeria usually come to buy and sell on market days,” he was quoted as saying.

The attack came one day after Iliya Abbah, the Nigerian commander of the five-nation regional force set up to fight Boko Haram, concluded a visit to a military base in northern Cameroon.
