Adenike Adekunle, captain of Sunshine Queens FC of Akure, has attributed the team’s 2015 Federation Cup victory to consistency.
Sunshine Queens of Akure defeated Bayelsa Queens 4-2 on penalties to lift the Women’s 2015 Federation Cup trophy at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos, on Sunday.
The encounter went into penalties after both teams’ ended proceedings 1-1 at regulation time.
Adekunle told NAN in Lagos that she was happy about the team’s performance, noting that the win came as a relief to her.

“It’s been three years that we have gotten the finals of the Federation cup; I thank God that we won it this time around,” she said.
“We succeeded because of team work and I feel very happy about our win.
“We played against Rivers Queen in the 2011 final and in 2014, it was Rivers Angels that we encountered; thank God we won it this time around against Bayelsa Queens.”

Sunday Eremechusi, team manager, Sunshine Queens, applauded his team’s performance, saying that the victory came as a result of the cooperation of the entire team.
“I want to commend the coaching crew on the victory; this is victory for Ondo state and I must say that the team has continued to impress against all odds,” he said.
On the other hand, Rowlandson Odeh, coach of Bayelsa Queens, said the team lost the final encounter having failed to convert some scoring chances.
“We missed a lot of scoring chances; however, it was a good game and I hope the team will come back better,” he added.
