Sunshine Stars captain suspended for six league games

Sunshine Stars captain, Sunday Abe, has been suspended for six Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches by the League Management Company (LMC).

The midfielder was sanctioned for his conduct in his team’s match at Shooting Stars “for head-butting and kicking” the match referee, Peter Ogabor, after he awarded a penalty to Shooting Stars.

Another Sunshine Stars player, Dayo Ojo, was also punished for improper conduct.

The midfielder was fined N50, 000 (around $230) “for shoving a ball boy during the Glo Premier League match at Shooting Stars”.

The match referee was not spared either as the LMC recommended to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), that he “be immediately withdrawn from the Glo Premier League”.

The two clubs were also fined N500,000 (around $2,400) each.

Shooting Stars were indicted for the poor conduct of their fans which the LMC deems as “capable of bringing the league to disrepute” while Sunshine Stars were punished for “the failure of their players and officials to show due respect to the decisions of the match officials” during the match.
