Super Eagles beat Indomitable Lions of Cameroon

Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 3-0 in a friendly match played in Belgium on Sunday.

The team recovered from the 2-0 loss to DR Congo on Thursday to ease pressure on coach Sunday Oliseh and secure a win against a 10-man Cameroon.

Efe Ambrose put Nigeria ahead in the 39th minute after the Celtic defender rose above the Cameroon defence to connect a John Obi Mikel’s free kick.

Captain Ahmed Musa became the provider for Moses Simon to score the second goal on the hour.

And substitute Odion Ighalo took the game beyond the reach of the Indomitable Lions with a third goal two minutes from time.

The Watford forward headed home from a cross by Elderson Echiejile.

With the score at 1-0, Cameroon’s woe was compounded when captain Stephane Mbia was sent off in the 47th minute after receiving a second yellow card.

Before then, though, they could have drawn level in the 44th minute when Spurs winger Clinton Njie got behind the Eagles defence. But Leonard Kweuku could not get a touch to the final pass from inside the six-yard box.

Cameroon have their young goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa to thank after the FC Barcelona B team first-choice pulled off saves to deny Nigeria the best being Emmanuel’s Emenike’s shot after 31 minutes.

Carl Ikeme was busy in goal too for Nigeria as he made what could be termed the save of the day when he tipped the ball for corner from a shot from Moukandjo in the 56th minute.
