Super Eagles stars Balogun, Ujah suffer racist abuse in Germany

Super Eagles duo, Anthony Ujah and Leon Balogun, suffered racist abuse during a German Bundesliga game on Saturday.

The incident took place during FSV Mainz 05’s encounter with Hannover.

After the game, Balogun informed the club that racist slurs were hurled at himself and Ujah during the second half of the game while they were warming up in front of a block of home fans.

Ujah, who is back for a second stint at the club following his transfer from Chinese outfit Liaoning, replaced Yoshino Mutu nine minutes to the end of the game.

The Bundesliga club has condemned the racial discrimination suffered by the Nigerians.

“I’m taken aback by what Leon Balogun and Anthony Ujah had to experience on Saturday,” Rouven Schroeder, Mainz sporting director said on the club’s website.

“It’s unfathomable that players in the Bundesliga still face racial discrimination to this day.
