Jennifer Echegini, Super Falcons of Nigeria midfielder, has been snapped up by Juventus women’s team.

The 22-year-old fast-rising college football player leaves the Florida State Seminoles in the United States to join the Italian Serie A women’s league side on a two-and-half year deal.

The Turin club announced the deal in a statement on Thursday, adding that the Nigerian midfielder will wear the number 26 jersey.

“Juventus is delighted to announce the signing of Jennifer “Joe” Echegini, the latest addition to Joe Montemurro’s Juventus Women team,” the statement reads.

“The 22-year-old midfielder, born in the Netherlands and raised in England, plays for the Nigeria national team and arrives at Juventus from Florida, in the United States of America.

“She has signed a contract until 30 June 2026, and will wear the number 26 shirt.”

Speaking about the transfer, Echegini, who was a member of the Super Falcons’ 2023 World Cup squad, said she looks forward to meeting her new teammates.

“I’m really excited for this opportunity, I can’t wait to get started and I can’t wait to meet you guys. Forza Juve,” she said.

She also disclosed that her decision to join Juventus was to “win things” at the club.

“I like the competitiveness of the league itself, its amazing. The team itself, they win pretty much every year. It’s a place where I can push myself, it’s a place where I can win things,” she said.

“I want to go to the best, a place where I can be the best. But [also] a place where I can contribute my part and put as much [effort] I can to help the team do better and win things as much as I can.

“We’ll see how it goes.”

Echegini, a former Arsenal women’s youth player, ended 2023 with 16 goals for Florida State Seminoles.
