Suspected case of coronavirus under quarantine in Katsina

The Katsina ministry of health says there is a suspected case of coronavirus in Dutsinma local government area of the state.

Kabir Mustapha, the permanent secretary of the ministry, disclosed this during a media briefing on Wednesday.

Mustapha said the patient, who is at present in self-isolation, returned from Malaysia and developed symptoms that warranted further investigations.

“Already, his samples have been taken and results being expected tomorrow,” he said.

“The contact tracing will commence as soon as results are out.”

The permanent secretary added that the ministry is working with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and that it is taking all precautionary measures.

He advised people to seek medical attention “as measures are in place to provide support”.

Nigeria recorded its third case of the virus on Tuesday. The patient, a 30-year-old woman, returned to the country on March 13 from the United Kingdom.

She has since been moved to the Infectious Disease Centre in Yaba, Lagos.

The country confirmed five new cases of the disease on Wednesday.
