At least 19 people were killed in an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Kompany and Bakun Allu communities in Lafia, Nasarawa state, early Tuesday, but difficulty in establishing communication with the crisis-ridden areas meant the news did not filter out until Thursday.
Residents were awakened to the sound of gunshots, as the attackers who were said to have struck between 11pm and 2am, started shooting sporadically.
The herdsmen also razed 40 houses, leaving hundreds of residents displaced.
Nineteen corpses had been recovered as at Thursday, while many are still missing.
