Suspected hoodlums loot, vandalise shops in Kaduna as protest persists

Shops and offices are being looted and vandalised in Kaduna as the #EndBadGovernance protest persists.

On Monday, more protesters poured into the streets of the north-western state armed with cudgels, tree branches and Russian flags.

They erected bonfires and invaded buildings while chanting anti-government slogans.

The AIT office and Vision FM radio — both located in the Nagwamatsa area — were looted by suspected miscreants.

More protesters have also been spotted waving Russian flags in certain parts of the country.

The latest batch of flags were seen in Kaduna and Abuja. 

Thousands of protesters, mostly children, charged through deserted streets in Barnawa — beating drums and waving the flags.

The demonstrators also blocked major roads in the city, including the Station roundabout, Ahmadu Bello Stadium roundabout, Police College roundabout, and the Kawo overhead bridge.

Residents who had ventured outdoors for their routine businesses turned back as the number of protesters ballooned.

Shops, markets, and offices have also been closed.

The protest has been marred by violence, looting, and destruction of public and private properties in the north of the country.

In Kano, protesters were seen marching to the airport while waving the Russian flag, according to Eons Intelligence.

Kano was the first state protesters were seen waving Russian flags since the nationwide marches began on August 1.

The United Nations (UN) department of safety and security had warned that the planned protests in Nigeria were likely to be hijacked by groups with ulterior motives.
