Suspects confess to kidnapping Olu Falae

The Department of State Services (DSS) has paraded two men suspected of kidnapping Olu Falae, former secretary to the government of the federation, in Akure, Ondo state, on September 21.

Responding to questions from journalists, the suspects, Abdullahi Usman and Babawuro Kato, confessed to‎ the crime.

In a statement issued in the course of the event, the DSS said the suspects were arrested on October 5 at a hotel in Lokoja,‎ Kogi state.

“It may be recalled the chief Olu Falae, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) was on Monday 21 of September, 2015, abducted by armed men on his farm located at Ilado village, Akure, Ondo state,” the statement said.

“Even though he has been released by his abductors who collected the sum of N5 million ransom, two of the abductors were arrested by the service on October 5, 2015 at J Zebra hotel along Ganaja road, Lokoja, Kogi state.

“The duo arrested are Abdullahi Usman (aka Kadiri) and Babawuro Kato. The service wishes to state that the abductors were mere criminals. Investigations have further revealed that their action was not targeted at Falae as a statesman and prominent Yoruba leader.”

Consequently, the DSS enjoined Nigerians not to give the incident an ethnic colouration, vowing‎ to deal decisively with anybody found to have broken the law.

Falae was released four days after his abduction, and he later reveal that a ransom was paid contrary to the statement of the police that he was rescued.
