Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam announced on Tuesday that there was no vacancy for the Benue south senatorial seat, which is at present occupied by the Senate President David Mark.
He said the “decision to return him to the senate in 2015 is irrevocable”.
Mark was first elected into the senate in 1999 and has been senate president sine 2007.
Foreclosing the hopes of other aspirants, Suswam said: “We in Benue state have endorsed the candidature of Mark to return to the senate. The position of Senator Mark is not contestable. We want him back and there is no question or argument about it.”

Addressing an audience from Benue state at the presentation of a book, Suswam, Politics and Governance in Benue State, by Dr. Cletis Akwaya in Abuja on Tuesday, Suswam maintained that Mark’s seat was not contestable.
“Mark remains our choice. There is no vacancy,” he said.
The governor further said that as the state was strongly in support of President Goodluck Jonathan for 2015, so also was it “solidly behind Mark for the 2015 senatorial seat.”

He warned those who might have interest in the seat to think otherwise because there was “no vacancy”.
“The senate president has performed creditably well and it is only logical that we give him the needed support and encouragement to continue the good works in the upper legislative chamber,” Suswam said.
