It’s Sylva versus Dickson in Bayelsa again!

Timipre Sylva, former governor of Bayelsa state, will slug it out again with Seriake Dickson, incumbent governor of the state, in the December 5 gubernatorial election.

In 2012, Sylva, who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after losing the bid to clinch the party’s ticket, lost the election to Dickson.

However, he was declared winner of the rescheduled primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.

The primary was rescheduled against the wish of Sylva, who claimed he won the election conducted by the state chapter of the party.

He accused Adams Oshiomhole, chairman of the APC electoral committee in the state, of plotting to get him out of the race –an allegation Oshiomhole denied and threatened to meet with legal action.

Sylva initially described any attempt to conduct fresh primary as illegal, but finally accepted to take part in the exercise and boasted that he would win.

He polled 981 votes to beat Godknows Powel, his closest rival, who had 39 votes.

Mansur Alli, chairman of the electoral committee, announced the results in Yenagoa, saying a total of 1,147 delegates were accredited for the exercise.
