Bashar al-Assad, president of Syria, travelled to Moscow on Tuesday in a surprise visit to meet with Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
It is believed to be his first trip abroad since the war in Syria broke out in 2011. His visit was made known to the public after Assad returned back to Damascus.
