Taiwo Olowu of Nigeria has been crowned the West African Boxing Union (WABU) super welterweight champion.
Olowu, popularly known as Gentle Boy, defeated Ghana’s Alidu Sulemana via split decision to claim the regional belt on Tuesday at GOtv Boxing Night 30 held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
Sulemana was a last-minute replacement for compatriot Michael Ansah who had been earlier scheduled to face Olowu.
The victory was Gentle Boy’s 16th win in 17 professional fights with just one loss. Olowu is also the reigning national welterweight champion.

In other bouts, Sifon “Best” Iwatt outpunched Saheed “Eagle” Azeez to clinch the national super flyweight title.
Best earned the victory via unanimous decision, and won the first title of his professional career.
He was also awarded the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy for the best boxer of the night with N2 million cash prize.

In the national light welterweight bout, Ahmed “Eshe” Ganiyu knocked out Ayanfe “Battle Boy” Adeoye in the fifth round.
Abdulafeez “Big Name” Osoba, defeated Christopher Ucheji via a technical knockout in the national super welterweight category, while Bolatito “Black Tito” Oluwole beat Blessing Abisoye via unanimous decision to retain her national female cruiserweight belt.
However, the national bantamweight challenge bout between Arabambi Ojo and Ibrahim ‘”Golden Boy” Opeyemi ended in a draw.
