Take the mask off

YouNow is created for the everyday individual who seeks to gain a deeper understanding of Self in order to achieve their highest potential, while staying true to their essence. These write-ups are designed to help you become more conscious and deliberate in your interactions and day-to-day living.

A few weeks back, I was on the set of ‘Moments’ on EbonyLife TV talking about unmasking at work. How people conceal their insecurities, portraying themselves to be what they are not in order to ‘get along or get by’.

The desire for acceptance is human. We have all (at one time or the other) struggled or struggle with the task of finding a fit within our environment, some more than others. The fear of rejection triggers an immoderate need for reassurance and affection.
Even though we say ‘I don’t care what people think’, the very attitude of acting in a certain way to elicit a kind of perception is in itself an act of ‘caring.’
While it is essential not to let our emotions and uncertainties hang out for all to see, it is more critical to maintain a true representation of our values, beliefs, deepest and truest ideals, needs and desires in self-expression.

Sometimes, we do not know how to access our creativity and unlock the seed of greatness, which we all possess.
The key lies in how much we are willing to invest in the defence of our authentic expression.
Self-expression is about spirit and character.
Only when firmly grounded in our real selves do we develop the capacity necessary for healthy growth and adaptation to life’s challenges and opportunities. Only then also can we live, share our lives with others and serve in ways that are healthy, deserving and productive thereby finding peace, fulfilment and meaning.

Many of us hardly, if ever, take time out from our routines to become an observer of our own lives and who we are ‘being’.  Take time to step back from your life and see whether you are truly happy, fulfilled, using your talents, and pursuing your passions.
You can get the professional support of a coach to help you with self-exploration in gaining knowledge that can open up new possibilities for you. And yes, you do need help for this. You must find a new way to think, before you can master a new way to be.

Take the mask off.
Speak your truth in the moment. Shroud it in kindness and love, but speak it.
In standing up for your truth, you gain courage and permit your uniqueness to find its influence.

Remember Freedom is Peace, Optimism is Nature. Action is always within reach. BE MORE!
