Tambuwal, Emerhor, Al Makura, Peterside emerge APC governorship candidates

The All Progressives Congress (APC) held its primaries for gubernatorial candidates in almost all the states of the federation on Thursday.

Although the exercise commenced behind schedule in most of the states, there were hardly issues of violence.

Delegates trooped out in their numbers to cast their votes amid tight security.

While results of the election are already out in some states, voting is still ongoing in states such as Taraba, Lagos, Ebonyi at the time of filing this report.

In Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, the speaker of the federal house of representatives, polled 3,466 votes, leaving his challengers Umaru Dahiru and Yushau Kebbe in the dust with 23 and 13 votes respectively.

In Kaduna, Nasir el-Rufai, is likely to emerge the winner, as he was in clear lead of other aspirants.

In Rivers state, Dakuku Peterside, a member of the Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro federal constituency, who was believed to have enjoyed the support of Rotimi Amaechi, clinched the ticket; while O’tega Emerhor, a chartered accountant and top businessman, defeated Fidelis Tilije in all the local government areas in Delta to emerge winner.

Oky Ezea was the victorious candidate in Enugu.

Seven governors of the party are currently seeking reelection and all of them – Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Ibrahim Gaidam (Yobe), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Tanko Al Makura (Nasarawa), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Kassim Shettima (Borno) and   Abdul’Aziz Yari (Zamfara) have been declared winner of the primaries.

Imo’s primaries is still undecided in the hope that Governor Rochas Okorcha can still claim the ticket should he lose next week’s presidential primaries.
