Tambuwal meets Obasanjo in Ogun to ‘discuss national issues’

Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state, has met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The meeting took place on Sunday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Kehinde Akinyemi, a media aide to Obasanjo, said the meeting was held behind closed doors.

He said Tambuwal arrived at about 1.30pm with some of his key aides and he went straight into the meeting with the former president.

According to him, the duo came out at about 2.40pm “and briefly he hinted that the meeting was on national issues”.

“He later took his lunch with his entourage and headed for the mosque inside OOPL to observe salat (prayers) before leaving the complex,” Akinyemi said in the statement.

During the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention in May, Tambuwal withdrew from the presidential race and asked his supporters to back Atiku Abubakar.

Tambuwal had said he stepped down for Atiku for the “good of the party and the country”.

“What we have done is for the good of our party and the country. I appreciate everyone of you that prayed for me and our party,” he had said.
