Tambuwal warns LG chairmen not to owe salaries

Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state, has vowed to sanction any local government chairman in the state who fails to pay the salaries of workers as and when due.

Tambuwal made this known on Monday when addressing journalists after a meeting with the caretaker chairmen of the 23 local governments in the state.

The meeting was said to be sequel to the chairmen’s delay in the payment of the June salaries.

“I have directed them to ensure the immediate payment of the June salaries of their workers and they must do so in full,” he said.

“I have also warned them against piece-meal payment of the salaries, like some of them did in the previous months.”

Tambuwal said the state government had made adequate arrangements to enable the local governments effect the full payment of the outstanding June salaries to the workers of the local governments.

“So, the meeting was convened on how best to effect this payment without any delay, as we cannot afford not to pay them their rightful entitlements.
