Police withdraw Tambuwal’s security aides

Policemen attached to Aminu Tambuwal, speaker of the house of representatives, have been withdrawn, TheCable understands.

TheCable was informed that while Ita Ekpeyong, the director-general of the Department of State Service (DSS), was against the total withdrawal of security, Sulaiman Abba, the acting inspector-general of police, withdrew his men.

Tambuwal’s DSS details and men of the Civil Defence corps are still guarding him.

The speaker announced his defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday and attended his new party’s extraordinary convention in Abuja the following day.

A member of the house of reps had told TheCable on Thursday morning: “Early this morning, a few minutes after midnight to be precise, a top-level security officer informed the speaker that orders had been given for the withdrawal of his security details.”

The source, who accused President Goodluck Jonathan of being behind the action, further alleged that a verdict would be entered against Tambuwal by a court in Abuja.

Tambuwal, as speaker, is entitled to high-level security made up of men from the police, Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Service (DSS).

  1. That shows the level political development in Nigeria, the intelligence level of our politicians and the extent at which the rule of law is in operation and respected. The question for me is, does Tambuwal have the right to the security aids as the speaker of the representatives or a memeber of the PDP?

    1. Excellent question Lanre! The security detail is state property not party property. This is an example of politicians taking the resources of the state for personal gain. How do we intend to make progress as a country if we keep acting like a bunch of imbeciles?

  2. The Cable, please don’t go the Sahara Reporters route. Please! Certain “I-hear-say” stories should not be seen here, it is nauseating!

  3. The Nigerian Police authority is just reading the paymaster’s script. There is no problem, escort or no escort, Rt. Hon. Tambuwal has just gone for good.

  4. There. Should. Be no sentiments. He should. Vacate the seat . He. Was. Appointed. On the basis. Of PDP. Majority. In the house. He should have have simply stepped aside after declaring..

    1. Did PDP ask Mimiko to resign when he defected to their party knowing that the mandate was given to him by Labour party?
