Taraba assembly raises panel on Suntai’s health

Speaker of the Taraba state house of assembly, Josiah Kente, has revealed that the house has set up a five-man medical panel to verify the health status of  Governor Danbaba Suntai.

Kente said the action followed the resolution of the state executive council meeting evoking the provisions of Section 189 (b) and 189 (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which validates constituting such panel.

Suntai has been inactive with the affairs of government since a plane he piloted on October 25, 2012 was involved in a crash around Yola, capital of Adamawa state.

“I have set up the medical panel in line with the resolution of the state executive meeting of September 10, which requested me to do so,” he said.

The panel has Professor Bala Shehu as chairman, while the members are personal physician of  Suntai, Doctor Ahmed Kara; Professor Peter Alabi, Doctor Shehu Sule; and Doctor Inusa Samaila.

After receiving medical attention in Germany and the United States, Suntai returned to the country but was declared unfit to rule, and he was later flown to London for further treatment.

He returned to Nigeria again last week.
