Taye Taiwo, former Super Eagles defender, says Manchester United fans accused him of helping rivals at the Etihad to win the English Premier League title in 2012.

The then Alex Ferguson’s side needed to beat Sunderland away, while expecting Queens Park Rangers to shock Manchester City so they could reclaim the title.

City, however, scored twice in stoppage time to be crowned champions for the first time in 44 years as they beat QPR to win the league on goal difference.

Sergio Aguero’a dramatic stoppage time goal saw Taiwo, who was on loan from AC Milan, beaten before blasting the ball into the net to make it 3-2.

“They said I allowed Man City win because Yaya Toure was there because my former teammate Samir Nasri was there,” Taiwo said in an interview with Brila.

“I remember when I’m walking in London then, Manchester United fans will come up to me and tell me that I helped Man City win the game. And I would be like what are these people talking about?

“The game was difficult for me because if I had touched Aguero it was going to be a penalty, so I didn’t have any option.

That year, Man City became the first team to win the league title on goal difference since Arsenal pipped Liverpool in 1989.
