TCN: Gas supply constraint affecting electricity supply

'Insecurity delayed repair' -- TCN adopts temporary measure to restore power in northern Nigeria 'Insecurity delayed repair' -- TCN adopts temporary measure to restore power in northern Nigeria

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), says the gradual decrease in available generation into the grid is a result of gas constraints to the generating companies.

Electricity supply to the 11 power distribution companies (DisCos) has been on the decrease of late as energy sent out declined.

Giving reasons for the development in a statement on Thursday, Ndidi Mbah, general manager, public affairs at TCN, said the shortage of gas impacted the quantum of bulk power available on the transmission grid, for onward transmission to the distribution load centres nationwide.

Mbah said the company is doing everything possible to collaborate with stakeholders in the power sector to ensure the grid remains intact despite the current low power generated into the system.

“Consequent upon the current load on the grid, load distributed to the distribution load centres has also reduced, as TCN can only transmit what is generated,” Mbah said.

“TCN is committed to ensuring a gradual increase in electricity supply to load centres as gas improves to power available thermal plants.”

Mbah, therefore, told Nigerians to bear with TCN, adding that efforts are being made to work with industry stakeholders to ensure improvement in power distributed to consumers nationwide.
