Teenage bride poisons husband in Kano

Tragedy struck in Kano state after a 14-year-old bride allegedly poisoned Umar Sani, her husband, on Thursday.

Magaji Majiya, spokesman of the police in the state, who disclosed this on Tuesday, said the suspect had escaped

Majiya said the relations of the late husband reported the incident to Kofar Wambai police station in Kano metropolis on Monday.

He said the report indicated that the deceased, who married the teenage wife two weeks ago, was poisoned on January 4, and died the following day.

“After the police received the report on the incident, they went to their matrimonial home at Yakasai quarters in Kano metropolis but found that the bride had ran away,” he said.

“Our men had already swung into action with a view to trailing and arresting her to face prosecution.”

According to him, the command would ensure that due process is followed in the investigation in order to ascertain the circumstances that led to the dastardly act.

In April 2014, Wasila Tasi’u, then 15-year-old, used rat poison to kill her 35-year-old husband,  who coincidentally bore Umar Sani.

Tas’iu was charged with murder but the case was dropped a year later.

  1. That’s the disadvantage of marrying teenage girls who don’t know about life. they are also forced out of school to marry a man older than their father. If teenage marriage can’t stop then such incident would continue.
