A customary court in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, has sentenced Mayowa Amoo, an 18-year-old boy, to six months in prison for allegedly stealing clothes worth N3 million.
At the court on Thursday, Philip Amusan, the prosecutor, narrated how Amoo, along with accomplices still at large, committed the offence on April 3 at Ogunpa market in Ibadan.
Amusan said the teenager, who worked at the market, stole a bag containing an assortment of clothes belonging to one Colombia Umegboro.
He said Amoo was caught and then handed over to the police.

Amusan said the offences contravened sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo state, 2000.
Sukurat Yusuf, the court’s president, ordered that Amoo be held at the Agodi correctional facility in Ibadan.
Yusuf sentenced Amoo after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

She, however, gave the defendant an option of N30,000 fine, and N1 million in restitutions to the complainant.
