‘Terrorist killed’ as troops raid hideouts in Kaduna

Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly killed a suspected terrorist during a raid on hideouts in Kaduna.

In a statement on Monday, Musa Yahaya, acting deputy director army public relations 1 Division, said the raid was conducted on August 25.

Yahaya said the troops conducted a clearance operation in Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji.

He said the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, adding that one of the insurgents was killed in the process.

He added that many of the terrorists escaped the location with gunshot injuries.

“In the fire fight that ensued, troops overpowered and neutralised one of the terrorists while others fled with suspected gunshot injuries,” the statement reads.

“Troops recovered four AK-47 magazines (three fully loaded with total quantity 60 x 7.62mm Special ammunition and one empty magazine), a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles (one of which was destroyed).”

Other items recovered include a Tecno mobile phone, a baofeng handheld radio, and an airtel recharge card valued at N5,000.

Mayirenso Saraso, general officer commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH, commended the troops for their efforts and for “making life extremely difficult” for terrorists operating in parts of the country.

Saraso thanked the people of Kaduna, Kano, Niger and Jigawa states for their continuous cooperation.
