Tesla to recall over 46,000 cybertrucks, cites faulty exterior panel

Tesla Inc., an American multinational automotive company, says it will recall 46,000 cybertrucks in the United States to fix an exterior panel that could detach during driving.

According to a Reuters report, the company, in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday, said the recall affects vehicles built from November 2023 through February 27 of this year.

The automaker said the recall addresses the risk that a stainless-steel exterior trim panel can detach from the vehicle, making it a road hazard and boosting the risk of a crash.

The company said it intends to replace the rail panel assembly with a new one that meets durability testing requirements.

The NHTSA reportedly informed Tesla on February 21 about a car owner who claimed that a rail panel had detached.

A detached rail panel, according to Tesla, could make a noticeable sound inside the cabin or cause passengers to notice the panel separating from the car or coming loose.

The firm said it is aware of 151 warranty claims that could be related to the recall, but there have been no collisions or injuries.

Reuters said while Tesla does not break out deliveries of its cybertrucks, analysts project the recalled vehicles represent a vast majority of the vehicles on the road.

On January 1, it was reported that one person died and seven were injured when a Tesla cybertruck exploded outside the entrance of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.
