Sonny Echono, the executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), has been honoured with a plaque at the maiden edition of the Nigerian Patriotism Award.
The presentation of the award was held on Wednesday in Abuja.
At the ceremony, Echono was recognised with the “Leadership Excellence Award in Education Development”.
The award acknowledges Echono’s contributions to the advancement of tertiary education in Nigeria.

The event was held alongside the launch of a book titled “Celebrating Patriotism and National Development”.
It hosted policymakers, business leaders, and diplomats.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ephraim Victor Okon, the president of NPA, said the award is to honour the unwavering spirit of Nigerians.

“This esteemed event is dedicated to recognizing the unsung heroes and devoted citizens whose contributions have profoundly shaped our nation’s progress. From fostering unity and peace to driving innovation and growth,” he said.
Okon said TETFund, under Echono, has made significant achievements in enhancing Nigeria’s tertiary education sector in the area of increased investment in quality education and skills development.
He said Echono’s efforts will provide a globally competitive workforce while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and innovation.
Abdulmumin Oniyangi, TETFund’s director of public affairs, received the award on behalf of Echono.

He reiterated TETFund’s commitment to adding value to tertiary education in Nigeria.
