Fisayo Soyombo, an undercover journalist, spent two weeks in detention — five days in a police cell and eight as an inmate of Ikoyi Prison — tracking corruption in the criminal justice system, beginning from the moment of arrest by the police to the point of release from prison.
In the second of a three-part series, Soyombo exposed how the courts short-change the law, and the prisons are themselves a cesspool of the exact reasons for which they hold inmates.
The second part was published on Monday and as expected, some Nigerians took to social media to comment on the justice system.
Below are reactions.

I mentioned once that our Criminal Justice System is derelict. The Police, Judiciary and Prisons all complicit. The prisons however is not just a warehouse but a huge racket that will make your heart sick. This investigation corroborates the postulation. #CashAndCarryPrison https://t.co/7avsMfC22d

"You see those warders, they’re the ones who should be in jail. They’re far more fraudulent than I was. Their freedom should be in my hands, not mine in theirs!”
The wardens need to go for rehabilitation and revivification as well!

This narration is absolutely true, I have had reasons to visit inmates at ikoyi prison and kirikiri, I do not pay less than N1400 at various points. There is a fix price for the officer that the visitation is done in his office, its N1000. These things are no secrets.

Ghetto, the truth is that if u were the one who went undercover to a Nigerian prison, got caught with hidden camera and beaten mercilessly for withholding your true identity, then I came online replied with Lol asking for video evidence, you'll be very upset with me 👍

Business-Wise: This true life prison experience and self sacrifice of @fisayosoyombo will sell if an A-list Nollywood filmmaker will be willing to pick up this story.
We want something like this on Netflix as well. It's the only way to expose some of the ills in this country.
— EMYRS (@itsDonmonc) October 21, 2019
bro i can relate….I was in ikoyi prison in 2014 as an awaiting trial inmate and I know what u are talking about

The corruption in every small cell size of the giant organism called Nigeria is iredeemably common place. EFCC, NASS, FG, the judiciary, LGs, government parastatals, everywhere.
There's is entrenched greed, institutionalized bribery. Everywhere. I repeat, everywhere.
— Moses Abali (@MosesAbbaly) October 21, 2019
Fisayo, God will bless you man. The travails if what you want thru, are worthy of you landing an award! Sadly you won't get any in Nigeria of today but don't worry, your name will go down in Gold!@segalink @simonkolawole @thecableng

I salute your courage and dedication to your profession @fisayosoyombo . The report breaks my heart and I have concluded we don’t love each other in this Country. No atom of compassion. Everyone is after the Money. Shame

We as a people and government are a joke to ourselves. Until we are sincere with ourselves, our institutions and the society will remain a joke in reality but super perfect on paper. Not really surprised but shocked at the level of inhuman behavior. Good job @fisayosoyombo
— TIMs (@Timi_fyi) October 21, 2019
You delivered as promised. I am not surprised by all you went through and wrote in this article. The corruption is from the top and it's going nowhere anytime soon. Good world Fisayo.

We can't say really. Sitting down and lamenting forever about how bad things are will change nothing. Bold steps like this is the right way to go. It's a gradual process.
— B (@benedwit) October 21, 2019
kudos. You have done your part, left for the rest of us to take it up and demand for reform (not revolution oooo).

Uninhabitable prisons have permitted warders to exploit citizens, it should not be so.finally I hope this report is put2good use, doubt you'd be jailed abroad without proper investigation, also I think it's a criminal offence in some countries to do what you did..this is Nigeria!

This is the type of man that deserves National awards. Not people with EFCC files! He has endured Police detention, Court and Prison to expose evil practices there. These all have their roots in racist colonial Nigeria. The culture has not changed at all
— Samuel Williams (@FolarinWill) October 21, 2019
Why will those who know close to nothing on the huge risk you took to expose the rot in the police and prisons, want to edit your work? Imagine editor of "Earnestsir Times" retraining @fisayosoyombo on how and what to report on twitter. #CashAndCarryPrison

Beyond the quest to investigate the unimaginable rot in our different system, expose it & desire to change it that @fisayosoyombo had, I'm sure this is his most traumatic experience in life.
I'm sure only firing top staff & true reform can heal him. #CashAndCarryPrison#Shame
