Taiwo Adebulu, features and investigations editor at TheCable, has won the 2024 Diamonds Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) for education reporting.
The 33rd edition of the DAME Awards was held on Saturday in Lagos.
Adebulu won the education reporting category with his report narrating how students of the Federal Government College (FGC) Birnin-Yauri, Kebbi state were abducted by hundreds of bandits while writing their final examinations.
In the detailed report, Adebulu x-rayed how some of the girls — between the ages of 13 to 16 — were killed while many others were sexually and psychologically tormented in their forced marriages to the bandits.

The report earned him a spot on the 2023 Fetisov Journalism Awards (FJA) shortlist in the outstanding contribution to peace category.
The Fetisov Journalism Award is the biggest prize in the history of international journalism.
Adebulu thanked the organisers of the DAME Awards for the recognition, noting that the story was borne out of a passion to shed light on one of the many challenges crippling education in the country.
