There’s no corruption in N-Power, says NSIO

The National Social Investment Office (NSIO) says its N-Power scheme is structured in a way that makes it immune to corruption.

In a statement on Wednesday, Justice Bibiye, communications manager of the NSIO, said the government showed political will in the execution of the programme which insulated it from corruption and other forms of sharp practices.

Bibiye said the scheme had no ghost beneficiaries, and that N-Power remains the most successful government-driven youth empowerment scheme in history.

“We are aware that some persons have assumed the role of perpetual pessimists of the social intervention programme following the institution of processes and procedures that frown on selfish tendencies and corrupt practices at the NSIO,” he said.

“We, however, owe it a duty to Nigerians to continue to set the records straight whenever naysayers come up with falsehoods to mislead the public.

“We wish to state categorically that there are no N-Power ghost beneficiaries neither is the programme embroiled in corruption as alleged by those who have decided to see nothing good in the scheme.

“From application, selection, deployment and payment of volunteers, the process is transparent, being technology-driven.”

An investigation by TheCable had revealed that the scheme was replete with massive bribery, fraud and ghost beneficiaries.

After the report, the federal government sacked 2,500 N-Power beneficiaries for absenteeism.
