The Sokoto state government says residents should report suspected bandits who may be disguising themselves around border communities to flee the military onslaught.

Ahmad Usman, the special adviser on security matters to Ahmad Aliyu, governor of Sokoto, said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the sustained military onslaught against the bandits has left them disorganised.

”Many terrorist enclaves were identified and destroyed, with several bandits neutralised, hundreds of kidnapped victims are also rescued in the ongoing operations,” the statement reads.

“As security operatives put more pressure on the bandits, they are fleeing to other areas with their injured members.

“Therefore, we want our people to be cautious, as some bandits may disguise and seek refuge in villages or receive treatment at local clinics.”

Usman said residents should report any suspicious activities to security agencies as part of measures to secure the state.

“This is part of the state government’s plan to enhance security and boost economic growth, in line with Governor Aliyu’s nine-point agenda,” he added.
