‘They’re for drainage clearing’ — Abba Yusuf speaks on wheelbarrow video

Abba Yusuf inspects truck filled with wheelbarrows at government house

Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, says the wheelbarrows seen loaded in trucks are not empowerment tools.

Some social media users had claimed that the wheelbarrows in the viral video are for youth empowerment.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Yusuf said the tools are meant for the 2024 drainage clearance exercise.

He said the wheelbarrows will be distributed to community development associations across the state.

“Obviously not empowerment materials, but tools we recently distributed to community development associations in Kano for the 2024 Kano Drainage Clearance Exercise,” the governor said.

“We currently have numerous young people enrolled in the Aliko Dangote skills acquisition institute and they’re getting acquainted with modern technical skills.

“Not to forget the 26 tertiary and entrepreneurial institutions that were reopened by this administration after being closed for 8 years.

“The institutions, most of which are undergoing remodeling and renovation, will provide opportunities for thousands of youths in the state who are interested in various entrepreneurial ventures in agriculture, IT, education, security, sports, and other sectors.

“We also currently have over 1000 first class graduates in India and Uganda, who are currently doing their masters degree in various fields under our sponsorship.

“At the same time, we have consistently paid tuition fees for Kano State undergraduate students in various universities around the country. This isn’t a loan, it’s free of charge.”

The governor urged the public to stop sharing unverified information and avoid mischief.
