Thiam sends Senegal into last-four

Senegal joined Mali to book a place in the FIFA U-20 World Cup semi-finals after a 1-0 win over Uzbekistan in Wellington.

Mamadou Thiam’s 77th minute strike was enough to see Africa occupy half of the tournament’s final four spots for the first time in a decade after they came out on top in a tight encounter against Uzbekistan.

Senegal will now face Brazil in the semi-finals, with the chances of an all-African final still in the card.

Serbia triumphed in the swirling wind beating USA in a tense penalty shootout.

The spot-kick drama followed 120 minutes of goalless affair in a rather drab match.

They will meet tournament surprise packages Mali in the semi-finals.
