Thompson Usiyan, the former Green Eagles striker, has passed on at the age of 65.
The former footballer died on Tuesday in his Lamest, Redonda Beach home in California, USA.
The death was confirmed in a tribute post by Felix Owolabi, a former teammate.
Owolabi expressed shock over Usiyan’s demise while praying for fortitude for the bereaved family.

“Just two weeks ago, we lost Segun Adeleke, also in America, and now it is Usiyan. I pray God will grant his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the 66-year ex-international wrote.
“Usiyan was a delight to watch in the attack. One cannot forget his contributions in a hurry. His departure from the US at that time created a big vacuum in the team.”
The cause of his death is however yet to be known as of the time of this report.

Usiyan was born on April 27, 1956, in Effurun, Delta state. He gained popularity for his exploits with the then Mid-Western state academicals before being deemed good for the senior national team.
He was a member of the Nigerian side that won a silver medal at the 1978 African Games in Algiers.
