‘Three farmers killed as herdsmen attack’ Borno community

Three farmers have been reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen in Modu Mairamti village of Borno.

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the suspected herdsmen stormed the village on Thursday.

Sources said the herders are known for damaging farmlands in villages.

The herders were said to have set ablaze houses in the village and members of the village for trying to prevent them from destroying their farmlands.

A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) reportedly said that the herders attacked the village with guns, machetes, bow and arrows.

He lamented that the invasion of criminal herders and cattle from neighbouring countries into farmlands of villages in Borno in becoming rampant.

“The criminal herders used machetes, Ak47 and poisoned arrows to assault us for resisted the unlawful invasion of farms,” the CJTF member was quoted as saying.

“We have so far, arrested one of them.”

The attack comes months after three people were killed by Boko Haram insurgents in Njilang community, Chibok LGA of Borno state.

Residents of the community told had told TheCable that the insurgents stormed the area with heavy gunfire around 3am.

A source had said the terrorists attempted to kidnap residents of the community while burning six houses and five shops in the process.
