IED explosion in Borno
An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road has injured three police officers on routine patrol.
Citing intelligence sources, Zagazola Makama, the counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, reports that the incident occurred at about 3pm on Tuesday, near Garin Kuturu village, between Auno and Jakana in Borno state.
The sources said the IED exploded when officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) stepped on it, wrecking their patrol vehicle and leaving a three-feet deep and five-feet wide crater in its wake.
Makama said the bomb disposal (EOD-CBRN) team was deployed to secure the area and thoroughly search for secondary explosives.
