Three-storey building affected as tanker explosion rocks Lagos community

A petrol tanker explosion has led to a fire outbreak at Alakara Bus Stop, Idi Oro, Mushin area of Lagos state.

A three-storey building in the area was affected by the explosion.

The incident occurred around 1pm on Wednesday, according to Adeseye Margaret, director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

The Lagos fire service boss confirmed that the source of the outbreak was a “33,000 tanker that is fully laden with premium motor spirit”.

Officials of the agency are said to be “on top of the situation and will provide necessary updates as situation demands”.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is attending to a Fire outbreak at Alakara Bus Stop, Idi Oro, Mushin, Lagos,” the statement reads.

“The Fire which was received at 13:17 hrs, saw the Agency mobilizing other emergency responders of the State to put up concerted efforts in combating the inferno.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that it is a 33,000 Tanker that is fully laden with Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as Petrol that is on Fire.

“Although the cause of the disaster is yet to be ascertained, Officials of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service remain on top of the situation and will provide necessary updates as situation demands.”

Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes “away from the Idi Oro Corridor of Agege Motor Road, Mushin”.
