Three suicide bombers lost their lives in an attempt to attack a hostel inside the University of Maiduguri on Thursday.
A source told TheCable that two of the bombers detonated their explosives inside the university, while one was gunned down as he tried to escape.
Bashir Adam, a security man at the university, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred around 11:30pm.
Adam said the attackers invaded the university through a perimeter fence.

He said security men moved in immediately they heard sounds of explosion and discovered a suspect trying to escape.
“We first shot him on his hand and then we gunned him down on the fence while trying to scale through,” he told TheCable.
“All the suicide bombers were killed by their explosive.”

Bunu Grema, a resident of the university, said the insurgents were unaware that the school was on break.
“They targetted student at the hostel not knowing that they were on break. We thank God they did not kill anyone,” he said.
The attacks on the University of Maiduguri have increased since May when 82 Chibok schoolgirls were swapped with Boko Haram commanders.
On May 13, two suicide bombers attacked the university of Maiduguri, killing one security guard and leaving a soldier wounded.
