Timi Dakolo, Gordons for historic love musical

Soul singer Timi Dakolo, DJ Xclusive, veteran vocalist Yinka Davies, comedian Gordons, prolific artiste Ice Nweke and others are coming together in an exquisite love musical performance.

Tagged ‘Love Is…the Musical’, the event is set to deliver a special theatre experience with a rich combination of dance, drama, music and poetry.

The story line is centered around abuse (domestic violence) and the dire need for love.

“Domestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone, yet the problem is often overlooked, excused, or denied. This is especially true when the abuse is psychological, rather than physical,” the organisers said.

“Noticing and acknowledging the signs of an abusive relationship is the first step to ending it. No one should live in fear of the person they love. And while women are more commonly victimised, men are also abused – especially verbally and emotionally, although sometimes even physically as well.

“The bottom line is that abusive behaviour is never acceptable, whether it’s coming from a man, a woman, a teenager, or an older adult. You deserve to feel valued, respected, and safe.

“In order to truly understand love, you must first forget everything you have ever learned about it from society and anyone else (including what I just said). You are the only person who can tell you what love is.

“The reason we are doing this show is because people always try to fit ‘love’ in with things like dating, relationships and marriage and all that. You can’t make any sense of it if you keep doing that. You have to get rid of everything you think you know first. And start from the very beginning.”

The show, organised by Limitless Minds Africa, will also feature special appearances from popular OAPs such as Mannie and ZOE.

It holds at The Eko Convention Centre, in Lagos, on November 2, 2014.

Special guest artistes include Ranti Ihimoyan, Donna the Poet, Sheila, Efe Paul Azino and Sasu, Frank Konwea and Kay Strings; while TV personality Andre Blaze will host the show.

Directed by Ice Nweke and produced by Clementine Vervelde, the inspiring story is a clear portrait of the lives of three beautiful women on a journey in search of the true meaning of love.
