Timipre Sylva wins Bayelsa APC guber primary

Timipre Sylva, former minister of state for petroleum resources, has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Bayelsa.

Ahmed Jibrin, chairman of the election committee, announced the result of the primary at the APC state secretariat in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital.

Sylva scored 52,061 votes to defeat five other contestants.

Jibrin announced that Joshua Machiver scored 2,078 votes, Festus Danumiebi polled 557, Maureen Etebu got 1,277, David Lyon scored 1,584, and Isikima Johnson polled 584 votes.

The committee chairman commended stakeholders in the state for the peaceful conduct of the primary election.

In his acceptance speech, the former minister, represented by Sunny Goli, a federal lawmaker, called for support from other contestants to secure victory for the APC.

In March, Sylva resigned from his ministerial position to contest the APC governorship primary election.

Sylva was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 21, 2019, after serving as the governor of Bayelsa state.
