Tinubu appoints Muyi Aina, Kelechi Ohiri as CEOs of NPHCDA, NHIA

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of two new chief executive officers of agencies under the ministry of health and social welfare.

In a statement on Friday, Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, said Tinubu appointed Muyi Aina (pictured in red tie) as the executive secretary and chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

The president also appointed Kelechi Ohiri (pictured in blue tie) as the director general and CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

Aina is a management consultant and public health professional with over 20 years of experience in healthcare and management consulting.

He holds a medical degree from the University of Ilorin, a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University and a doctorate degree from Johns Hopkins University.

In 2010, he founded Solina Group, a management and healthcare consulting firm. Prior to this, he was an engagement manager at McKinsey and Company.

On his part, Ohiri holds a medical degree from the University of Lagos and master’s degree in public health and health policy and management from Harvard University.

He most recently served as the managing director for strategy at Global Alliance for Vaccines (GAVI) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ohiri also served on Gavi’s programme and policy committee (PPC) from 2020 to 2023.

Before joining Gavi, he was chief executive officer of Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation, an Africa-focused, not-for-profit public health advisory firm.

Tinubu charged the new leaders to prioritise quality, fairness, and accountability in the provision of world-class health care to all segments of the Nigerian society.
