President Bola Tinubu has appointed Salamatu Ahmed as the executive secretary of the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board (FGSHLB).

Folasade Yemi-Esan, head of the civil service of the federation (HOCSF), handed over the appointment letter to the new executive secretary.

In a statement on Monday by Muhammed Ahmed, director of communications, HOCSF, Yemi-Esan said Ahmed’s appointment followed the terminal leave embarked upon by Ibrahim Mairiga, the erstwhile executive secretary.

She said Mairiga took the leave ahead of the expiration of his four-year tenure in September.

Congratulating the new appointee, she charged Ahmed to leverage on the wealth of experience gathered over the years, in ensuring the full realisation of the board’s core mandate.

Before her new appointment, Ahmed was FGSHLB’s board director of operations.

The FGSHLB was established in 1924 under the colonial administration as Africa Staff Housing Loans Scheme.

The agency was later renamed in 1974.

The board’s primary mandate include managing a revolving housing loan fund, enabling federal public servants to build, purchase, renovate or extend residential houses in Nigeria.

In essence, the agency aims to address the housing needs of civil servants.
