Tinubu heads to UAE from G20 meeting to discuss ‘lingering bilateral issues’

President Bola Tinubu is heading to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss “lingering bilateral issues”.

Tinubu just concluded his participation in a meeting of G20 countries, an intergovernmental forum Nigeria is interested in joining.

Nigeria and the UAE have a rift that dates back to 2021 when both governments stopped Emirates and Air Peace from flying into each other’s country.

The issues at the time bordered on the frequency of flights to be allowed in both countries by the aforementioned airlines.

In a statement on Sunday, Anjuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, said the meeting with the UAE leadership comes after a meeting Tinubu had with the UAE ambassador to Nigeria.

“The President is to address lingering bilateral issues while maximizing the opportunity of the stopover to equally advance his investment promotion objectives with high-level authorities in the public and private sectors of the United Arab Emirates,” he said.

Ngelale added that the president is expected to return to Abuja following the conclusion of the bilateral engagement in the Middle Eastern country.
