President Bola Tinubu says his administration will address obnoxious regulations and pursue a holistic approach, to make Nigeria’s education sector and its universities, globally competitive.

NAN reports that Yusuf Sununu, the minister of state for education, represented the president on Saturday at the 47th convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife.

The president said his administration will continue to invest in research to strengthen the qualitative education system at all levels.

He added that the administration has already started the implementation of policies and programmes that prioritise education and the revival of the economy.

“We must continue to invest in education and research to ensure that our graduates remain competitive in the repetitively changing world,” he said.

“We will address some of the root causes of trade union strikes and the university and tertiary institutions attendant wanton waste of time in the university.

“We will address some of the obnoxious regulatory frameworks and make some fundamental changes.

“I want to assure you that our government will take a holistic approach towards strengthening the education system.

“We will invest more in education at all levels and take action in repositioning Nigeria to be more globally competitive.

“As this government embarks on the great journey of building the nation, reviving the economy, prioritizing education and increasing business in young people, we earnestly seek your prayers to support this administration in nation-building.”
