President Bola Tinubu has ordered an investigation into the shooting of Ivan Omhonrina, a two-year-old boy, killed during a raid in Delta state.

On Saturday, Femi Babafemi, spokesperson of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said a stray bullet hit the young Omhonrina when operatives of the agency raided the Okpanam area of Asaba, capital city of Delta.

Babafemi said the victim died in the hospital while undergoing treatment.

In a statement on Tuesday, Dele Alake, special adviser to the president on special duties, communications and strategy, quoted Tinubu as directing the NDLEA management to quickly conclude the investigation so that justice would be served.

The president said the toddler did not deserve to die that way.

“I mourn the death of little Ivan Omhonrina and sympathise with his parents for the painful experience of losing an innocent child in a most tragic manner,” the president said.

“Ivan did not deserve to die that way. We must ensure the incident did not end like that and that what happened to Ivan does not happen to any other person again.

“I also pray for the quick recovery of Eronmonsele, who was reportedly injured in that unfortunate event.

“That incident is unacceptable. We must unravel those who foisted agony on the Omhonrinas and ensure they are brought to justice.”
