Tinubu: If politics weren’t sexy, why’s Remi in it?

Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says politics today is sexy, adding that if politics were not sexy, his wife Remi would not be in politics.

Rendering his appreciation at The Bola Tinubu colloquium, which held in Abuja on Tuesday, his 64th birthday, the former governor of Lagos state appreciated Yemi Osinbajo, whom he referred to as “my attorney-general” for initiating the colloquium eight years ago.

He lauded his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, a two-time senator, for her role in his life and her tolerance through the years.

After a documentary on his life and times in politics, Tinubu said his wife was behind the drive to make politics sexy for the youth to participate.

“My wife, as you have (seen) from the documentary, was one of the youths who were criticising us, the politicians. She said ‘make politics sexy so that youths can participate,’” he said.

“I got to the podium and said look at my wife, if politics is not sexy, what is she doing here? Remi, thank you for tolerating my trouble.”

Tinubu referred to APC as the cure for Nigeria, adding that governors of the party have energised him with their presence to continue his good work.

He spoke of agriculture as the way out of the economic downturn currently confronting Nigeria.

“I remember the article I wrote after the launch of the book, ‘Financialism: Fetching the Water from a Dry Well’. It was about this commodity exchange.

“The deceptive government of that time announced it immediately, that same week, that commodity exchange had been established. It took an Ethiopian to discover their lies.

“Thank God we are taking it more seriously now. Our future is being redirected. I salute the president, the vice president and the entire cabinet.

“Nigeria is being redirected; there’s no option for us, but to revalidate our faith in our country and take the hard decision now. Our renaissance must come within. We have the lands, we have the minds, we have the capacity, we have the intellect, we have the ability.”

In attendance was the oba of Lagos, ooni of Ife, APC governors, ministers, and the secretary to the government of the federation among many other dignitaries.
