President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed two bills into law to establish new federal universities in Osun and Ekiti states.
Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, issued a statement on Thursday.
He said a Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies will be sited in Iragbiji, Osun state.
Onanuga said the president also assented to the establishment of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences to sited in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti state.

President Tinubu said the institutions would help meet the country’s educational needs, promote research and innovation, and contribute to economic development.
He added that they would serve as training centres for agriculture, science, and technology professionals, strengthening Nigeria’s global competitiveness.
NUC database, as of February 2025, showed Nigeria has at least 149 active private universities, 63 federal, and 63 state.

Earlier in February, Tinubu had signed a similar bill establishing the Federal University of Environmental Technology in Ogoni, Rivers state.
This, he said, would help address environmental justice and expand educational opportunities in the Niger Delta region.
