President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Balarabe Lawal as the minister of environment.
The ceremony was held during the federal executive council (FEC) meeting at the council chamber of the presidential villa, Abuja.
Tinubu swore in Lawal alongside Jamila Bio Ibrahim as minister of youth development, and Ayodele Olawande as minister of state for youth development.
Lawal was the secretary to the Kaduna state government during Nasir el-Rufai’s administration before he was redeployed to head the ministry of environment.

In a statement issued by the presidency, Lawal is charged with the responsibility of implementing environmental policies.
He is also expected to address challenges related to climate change as well as ensure proper waste management in the country.
“The minister of environment is responsible for formulating and implementing environmental policies,” the statement reads.

“They oversee initiatives to protect and conserve the nation’s natural resources. The minister addresses challenges related to climate change and ensures proper waste management practices.
“Their role also involves promoting public awareness on environmental sustainability.”
Tinubu had on August 21, inaugurated 45 ministers into his cabinet.
The president said the country is currently battling “daunting” challenges, adding that the ministers must implement “long overdue” reforms.
