President Bola Tinubu has sympathised with the government of Canada over a fire incident at its high commission in the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja.

A section of the Canadian high commission caught fire on Monday.

The cause of the fire was unclear at the time of this report but it was learnt that it started as a result of an explosion at the commission’s power generating plant.

Staff were evacuated from the building to safety.

In a statement, Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, quoted Tinubu as saying that the federal government would offer aid to any of the staff affected by the fire incident.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sympathizes with the Canadian government, the diplomatic community, and all persons affected by a fire incident which occurred on Monday at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja,” the statement reads.

“The President assures the Canadian authorities of the full support of the Nigerian government in the aid of diplomatic and local staff of the High Commission who were particularly affected by the incident.”

The presidential spokesperson said Tinubu prayed for the repose of those killed in the incident and wished all injured persons a full recovery.
